Updates
New Worker Certification Begins 2027
New child protection workers starting New Worker Foundations in early 2027 will be part of the first rollout of Certification. After finishing their Foundations coursework, learners will take a Knowledge Assessment and complete a Summative Simulation. During this initial rollout, passing scores are not required. We will focus instead on worker knowledge and ensuring that our testing process is accessible, equitable, and appropriate for the certification legislative requirement. Certification for current workers begins in Summer 2027. Learn more on our certification page.
Website and Email Addresses Have Changed to .org
To better reflect our not-for-profit mission in supporting county and tribal agency child welfare teams across Minnesota, the Training Academy is updating our primary web and email domain from mnchildwelfaretraining.com to mnchildwelfaretraining.org as of Tuesday, October 13. Both options will continue to be accessible, but it may be helpful to update any pages you have bookmarked. You may also experience a technical issue logging into the Training Portal. Learn more in this recent blog post.
Academy Quarterly Video Update
Throughout 2026, our co-directors have been sharing quarterly video updates of the latest news from the Training Academy. In this latest installment, Liz Snyder is joined by Richard Coleman, our Learner Development and Community Training Team Supervisor. Learn more about the latest with MAAFPCWDA training and Certification.
Academy Promotes Learner Feedback and Training Data
The Evaluation and Certification Team at the Training Academy has been busy recently with the development of a new worker certification initiative, beginning in early 2027, as well as analyzing and reporting on the early findings from the newly launched training that is a significant component of the Minnesota African American Family Preservation and Child Welfare Disproportionality Act (MAAFPCWDA) legislation. Because this training is required of all county agency child protection workers and supervisors, demand has been high and courses fill quickly. To accurately reflect those numbers, the Academy has rereleased the training reports for June and July with the most current data. They are also actively working to show learners the importance of their feedback and how this data can lead to better learning experiences in the future. If you have questions, contact the Academy.
