A professional development opportunity for child welfare supervisors and lead workers looking to advance into supervisory positions.

Earlier this year, the Training Academy launched New Supervisor Training, which is designed both to satisfy the legislative training requirement for county agency child welfare supervisors and to help all supervisors develop skills and better support their employees. Our next cohort starts November 17. Here are some of the reasons to consider registering.

Is New Supervisor Training Just for New Supervisors?

No! While this training was created with new supervisors in mind, the curriculum covers a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills appropriate for new or experienced supervisors as well as for lead workers hoping to advance into supervisory roles. This training is also a great option for tribal child protection supervisors and supervisors at private agencies that provide out-of-home placement services for children involved in Minnesota's county and tribal child welfare system.

To see if this entire training is for you, start by taking the self-paced Orientation to New Supervisor Training course. It only takes about 5.5 hours to complete and includes an Introduction to Approaches to Supervision, Values and Vision, Safety Practice Profiles for Supervisors, and Development of Cultural Practice for New Supervisors.

No-Cost Training

For the upcoming Cohorts 2 and 3, all training is virtual so there are no travel costs. New Supervisor Training is federally funded for all Minnesota county and tribal health and human service agencies. The only investment is your time. It is an opportunity to connect with other supervisors, gain and share knowledge, and develop new competencies.

Meet Licensed Supervisors Training Requirements

All licensing supervisors must complete 30 hours of training in supervision through academic coursework or continuing education and need to earn 6 supervision-specific continuing education hours. This training will provide you with over 50 CEUs.

Register by logging into the Training Portal and select Orientation to New Supervisor Training (CWTA X300) in the Training Catalog. If you have questions, contact us at info@mnchildwelfaretraining.org. We hope to hear from you soon!
